Biomedical research continually pushes the
frontier of technological invention and subsequently therapeutic
intervention. Aptly described as a revolution, the advances achieved during
this golden age of biotechnology will result in the development of a number
of breakthrough therapies. In no field is this statement more accurate than
in the field of musculoskeletal research. Moving beyond the traditional
biomechanical explanations and rudimentary treatments associated with
disorders such as osteoarthritis, scientists have begun to unravel the
molecular mechanisms tied to the cause of such diseases.
LAGeT, Inc., a privately
held Rochester, NY-based biotechnology company founded in 2001, believes
that the next step in the evolution of therapeutic intervention will take
place on the genetic, or DNA, level in the form of gene therapy. As a
result, the Company has positioned itself to capitalize on this opportunity
by designing a proprietary UV light-based medical device, termed LAGT (Light
Activated Gene Therapy), which promises to greatly expand the utility of one
of the most promising gene therapy vectors currently under development.
LAGeT Musculoskeletal LLC, a
subsidiary of LAGeT Inc. has developed a technology process using the LAGT
Laser for articular and meniscal cartilage repair, ligament and tendon
healing and enhanced spinal fusion.
